""One heckuva carnival ride"--Flaunt"
The Ditty Bops are the Los Angeles duo of Amanda Barnett and Abby DeWald. They sing harmonies, accompanying themselves with mandolin, guitar, and dulcimer (and sometimes a slide whistle), and their music draws on folk, ragtime, psychedlic pop, early jazz, and Western swing. But wait--there's more! The two Ditty Bops both played in a band that performed 1920s music in period clothes, and from that experience grew a whole theatrical side to their act, which can include anything from puppet shows and skits to onstage drawings to a whole wild variety of costumes--gangster's moll, Lone Ranger, prom dress, superhero, or what have you. Their show is never the same twice! And their current Bicycle Tour is just that--they're crossing the country by bicycle and giving concerts along the way, so keep an eye out. The Ditty Bops have appeared on "A Prairie Home Companion" and have opened for acts as diverse as Nickel Creek and Nancy Sinatra. They have a new Warner Brothers album, "Moon Over the Freeway," and you'll also find their Bicycle Bikini pin-up calendar at the merchandise table. Opening tonight's show will be The Ginn Sisters.
