"A trio of powerful new women songwriters"
Tonight's concert showcases three rising women with strong, distinctive voices and ideas. Minneapolis-to-NYC transplant Trina Hamlin has gained a national following for her powerful, bluesy songs of longing since she began playing solo shows in Manhattan clubs and touring with the likes of Paula Cole and John Hiatt. She's performed at the Newport Folk Festival and won the "Most Wanted New Artist" award at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Colleen Sexton went to New England to attend law school, but that lasted only two days after she discovered Boston's songwriting scene. Her soulful, passionate songs bring a new edge to the singer-songwriter tradition. Michigan-based singer-songwriter (and engineer-theologian-counselor) Terry Gonda has been performing since the mid-1990s but waited until just recently to release her first CD, love, lose, repeat. Her music has been aired as far afield as the BBC 2 radio network, and the Detroit Free Press describes her performances as "positively lucid" and "intoxicating."
