"New directions for a pop icon"
The resolutely independent singer-songwriter Lisa Loeb has been a pop star, notching a Grammy nomination and gold- and platinum-level sales. To date, she's the only artist without a record deal to top U.S. pop charts (with "Stay," from the "Reality Bites" soundtrack). But with her latest album, The Way It Really Is, she's added a whole new level of maturity to her music, blending her trademark pop sensibilities with introspective acoustic essays. The All Music Guide calls The Way It Really Is "a clean, crisp collection of well-crafted, gentle tunes that slowly, surely work into the subconscious." Opening this evening are Sirens--Donna Creighton and Jo-Ann Lawson, two women based in London, Ontario. "I think we're a cross between the Andrews Sisters and Manhattan Transfer with acoustic guitars," Creighton says.
