"Top-tier bluegrass collaborations"
The Rounder label recently released You Were There for Me, a blockbuster collaboration between two musicians who are admired by progressive and traditional bluegrass fans alike. Peter Rowan has been one of the top songwriters in bluegrass since his days with Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys in the 1960s and Jerry Garcia and David Grisman's Old and in the Way in the 1970s. Tony Rice is a guitar genius equally at home in straight-ahead bluegrass, experimental new acoustic music, and song-based folk sounds. Collaboration often brings out the best in both these artists, and the meeting of these two minds is a long-awaited event. Tony Rice and Peter Rowan are joined by Claire Lynch, a fabulous Alabama-based bluegrass songwriter with a new Rounder album on the way. Her band includes guitarist Jim Hurst and bassist Missy Raines, each a paragon of progressive bluegrass musicianship.
