From his youthful days as a member of Ralph Stanley's band, to a stretch as a Nashville superstar in the 1980s, to his rediscovery of the bluegrass he grew up with in recent years, Ricky Skaggs has been a musician of integrity and inspiration. He has a knack for finding new songs that have the dignity and seriousness of the best of classic bluegrass, yet he also brings a wicked sense of humor to both his stage presentation and his music itself. His band Kentucky Thunder has power in reserve. Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder visit Ann Arbor with a new album, Brand New Strings, that Bluegrass Unlimited has called "Ricky's masterpiece."
