The music of alternative rock phenomenon Juliana Hatfield has made the transition just fine to the stages of folk and acoustic music. With an integrity that was always apparent in her soul-baring lyrics, Hatfield has gone her own way creatively in recent years--and The Ark has been all the richer for it. In the mainstream music industry, Hatfield says, "the pressure to be something I was not was constant and unrelenting. I sort of tried to play the game for a while but I was disqualified because I wouldn't smile for the camera." The Associated Press praised Hatfield's latest album, In Exile Deo, for its "deeply personal and striking songs that jangle with a pop din but simmer with more intellectual fare."
